Omaha Next Week - Friday, June 4th, 2010

NLWC practices are going great.  We have the world team trials next weekend in Council Bluffs.  We almost have a full room of guys training at our Penn State Regional Olympic Training Site.  We have several of our college guys training, as well as Les Sigman, Jake Varner, Aaron Anspach, Teyon Ware, David Armstrong, Nick Fanthorpe, Doug Umbehauer, and Franklin Gomez.  Umbehauer will be wrestling for the NLWC next week and will be living and training full time in State College.  We are excited to have him join the NLWC.

Our guys have had excellent training in and will be ready to compete next week.  National Team Coach Zeke Jones was out here for a few days and just left today after our morning practice.  It was nice having him in town.  He is doing a fantastic job leading freestyle wrestling in the United States.

Today we are doing matches to simulate the tournament next week.  The work has been done and now it is time to sharpen our spears, get rested and ready.  These guys are ready to win.

Our plan is simply compete like a robot.  A robot, meaning when your power is flipped on, the robot knows exactly what it is going to do.  There is no hoping or waiting for things to come.  You don’t think and worry about what you are going to do.  There is no question.  The robot continues relentlessly in whatever action they are programmed to do until the power is flipped back off.  That means our feet and hands are working from whistle to whistle.  That eliminates uncertainty.  We know exactly what we are going to do. That’s how you get the best results.

The opportunity to make the United State World Team is a big deal and worth every ounce of fight and effort we have.  It is too important to roll the dice.  You roll the dice when you don’t use every second to attack with the skills (both those developed and those born with) to create the correct end result.

It’s time to make sure every bullet has been fired, every opportunity exhausted, to fight with the very best of our ability, and to have a whole heck of a lot of fun doing it.  That’s the goal.  The results will take care of themselves.  It’s time to question our doubts and exploit our faith and confidence.

P.S.  Jake, don’t worry too much about dropping those 3 passes in run-and –gun yesterday!  Yes, it probably cost your team the game, but, in all fairness to yourself, we would found a way to win regardless. haha
