In Denmark - Thursday, September 17th, 2009 I am in Denmark, waiting for our team to arrive tonight. The facilities in Denmark are nice. The arena is a small and should be a great atmosphere. The food is good. I am in a hotel right now about an eight minute walk from the arena. The housing is very limited. The tournament directors have brought in a bunch of portable campers that they set up just outside of the wrestling arena. I believe I will be moving out to a campere tonight or tomorrow. The wrestlers competing will be staying in the hotel. It will be good either way. The wrestlers have been resting the past few days. Jake weighs in on Sunday and wrestles on Monday. While being around the world team as they prepare for the most competitive tournament of their lives, it reminds how important it is to keep things simple. Keep the same mind set that got them here. Realize that everything doesn’t have to be perfect. They don’t have to be perfect. All they have to do is be better then one opponent, and do that 4-5 times. This is the time to focus only on what they can control and that is there effort and following their game plan. there are always hurdles and obstacles along the way. go with the flow. Expect obstacles. Expect delays in travel. Expect frustrations in advance so they aren’t a big deal when you meet them. Varner does a great job with this. He is very mentally tough. I think part of being mentally tough is accepting what you can and can’t control. There is a lot of wasted energy and focus out there by people trying to control the uncontrollable. gamers are guys that focus on the simple things that get their best results, regardless of the circumstances or what is going on around them. It is finding the “eye of the hurricane.” focus on what makes you special and wrestle in those positions as much as possible. If it isn’t your strength or your position, get out of there and back to your areas of strength. all right, my computer is running out of battery here so I must wrap it up. Funny thing though, the airline that the team is taking from Germany to Denmark only allows one carry on. The additional carry on is somehow going to cost $400-500 dollars each. There are probably 15 people in the party with a second bag. I think the Team Leader is now going to rent a car and drive the bags over. I heard it is around a 10 hour drive from Frankfurt. Brian Giffin is the man if he ends up doing that. I am glad I packed light! Overseas trips are always an adventure! Speaking of packing light, i ran out of workout clothes and cleaned my own clothes in the sink last night. There weren’t washing machines available. they aren’t perfectly clean but they are clean enough to workout in. maybe I just won’t tell Jake and blame the smell on him first… Latest Blog Entries:- 10 Ideas For Better Preseason Training - Monday, September 6th, 2010- It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up again. –Vince Lombardi - Thursday, August 19th, 2010 - Train your mind - Wednesday, August 4th, 2010 - Dustin Carter - Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 - Chess and Wrestling - Friday, July 9th, 2010 - Initiative - Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 - The “Do” and the “Be” Box - Saturday, June 26th, 2010 - Leading a Horse - Saturday, June 19th, 2010 - A good plan violently executed right now is worth a hundred perfect plans put off until next week. -General George S.
