Happy New Year! - Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Hello,

We have practice in a few minutes so this will be short. We had a nice Christmas Break, our family went back to Iowa to Kelly’s parent’s house. We shovelled a lot of snow and ate a lot fo junk food. We have a tradition of playing a “white elephant” or “nasty Christmas” as they call it on the t.v. shot “The Office.” The trick is to bring the worst gift possible. I think I won. I needed two gifts for the exchange and after wondering around Walmart for about an hour I figured out what to get. As sick of a feeling as it was for me, I bought a $6 Iowa (Hawkeye) hat for the exchange. It doesn’t get any worse then that- haha. The second gift was a pack of cigarettes. That also felt weird buying and to make it worse the nice lady at the register asked me for my I.D. She looked at my drivers license and said, “I thought I recognized you, my grandson’s are wrestlers.” We talked for a minute or two and I told her a couple of times that I don’t smoke and the gift was for a joke. I don’t think she believed me- haha. I got caught buying a pack of cigarettes and a hawkeye hat! wow that is bad. I actually had the thought “avoid the appearance of evil” in my head before I asked for the cigarettes but thought it would be funny for someone to open. Avoiding the appearance of evil means it’s not only good enough to avoid evil, we should avoid even the appearance of it (not try to hide the evil that we are doing.) Anyway I thought that was kind of a funny story.

The last few weeks have been busy because we moved into a house in State College, finally. We have been in a rental house with all of our stuff still in boxes. It does feel great to finally be in a house. We wrestle Lock Haven on Sunday and go to the Virginia Duals next week. Training is going well. We are constantly looking for fight from our guys. We want our guys moving forward and pushing the pace. Life is too short to not attack!
