Global Warming? - Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Just watched the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” I think that’s the name. It was not a good movie. It had an interesting concept and anytime a movie is about the end of the world it is interesting. At least it is to me. There have been several movies lately on the end of the world and most of them are about how we lame humans are responsible for the end of days by not taking care of the environment.

It’s hard to not see the political and Hollywood ideas and agendas in so many movies these days. I am so thankful that the super wise Hollywood people are so willing to teach us clueless regular folks how to live and how to think. Really, how great of a society would we have if every household had the same values and lifestyles of Hollywood? The world would be perfect, right?

We would just do away with families and marriages because we all know how out of date that whole idea is, children would grow up to care more about their haircut then their fellow man but there would be some cool facebook pages (if any of the kids make it past the abortion stage,) everyone would have their own private jet and we wouldn’t have to worry about being dependent on foreign oil or the pollution because the world oil supply would quickly be used up, we would have weekly award shows to honor ourselves for being so great at our jobs, we wouldn’t use money because we know how evil it is to reward people for hard work, sacrifice and taking risk, no one would get paid and no one would work, we would all lay around and food would just appear in our mouths and fancy clothes would magically appear in our closets, we will throw huge parties with cupcakes and balloons for the terrorists who want to kill us and hope they will become our friends, because this is going to be expensive and we won’t have any money to pay for it because businesses and making a profit and adding value to the world is a horrible thing, we will just give ourselves a bailout instead to cover the costs….. Now that sounds great doesn’t it! Yes let’s take advice from Hollywood.

Sorry I wasn’t going to go off on Hollywood. The point I was going to make was on global warming. I love the outdoors and I love the environment. If I’m walking outside and see a piece of garbage on the ground there is a good chance I am going to pick it up and put it in a garbage can. Maintaining our forests and our wild lands is very important to me. I doubt many people care more about the environment then I do.

Is pollution causing the climate to warm up? I don’t know, maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t. Personally I don’t think it really matters. Yes it is our moral obligation to take the best care of this planet that we can. There is no question about that. I think God expects us to be responsible for the many gifts he’s given us and this incredible planet is a gift beyond comprehension. We will be held accountable for everything we do while alive on this planet and our actions, inactions, and thoughts will have eternal consequences. Luckily, our Savior Jesus Christ has made it possible for us to be forgiven for our daily sins and mistakes and makes it possible to actually succeed. That gift is also beyond comprehension and something that we will be held accountable to fully use.

Back to the global warming, I believe God can change the weather and the temperature by a flick of his finger if He chose to. He could but will He? Part of His plan is that we have our own free will to choose good or evil and that so does every other person. Global warming is not the real issue that we are faced with. The real battle on earth is between good and evil. It is that simple. We try to complicate things and in all areas of our lives but the truth is simple. If you want to know how the world ends, read the scriptures. Yes, the second coming of Jesus Christ and the end of this world as we know it, will be in a day of terrible pollution. We know that, the scriptures say it.

Is the globe heating up by .003 degrees every 20 years because of the great pollution? Maybe. Does it matter? I don’t think so. Is it our responsibility to do the best we can to keep earth clean? Absolutely.

The interesting part and really the idea that I wanted to talk about is that I think this global warming scare is going to make a lot of people misread the signs of the times. The scriptures tell us what to expect and what to watch for as signs that the day of the Second Coming is near. A lot of those signs are the same things that global warming alarmists are claiming are results of global warming. The scriptures say there will be great storms, tempests, floods, plaques, pestilences, hailstorms that will wipe out our crops, etc. We know there are other signs that aren’t based on the physical world about attitudes, morals, values etc. But the natural disasters are a lot of the same catastrophes shown in the many global warming movies that have come out in the last few years.

This is almost the perfect storm. Satan is very cunning and will deceive many people. So even as the signs of the times unfold, many, many people will be deceived and will blame global warming. God gives us challenges and hard times to humble us so we return to following him and set ourselves up for eternity. God sees the end from the beginning. He sees the big picture. Now these things that are really meant to help us, warn us, humble us, and draw us back to God might be disguised as something else to the people that don’t know what they are looking and waiting for.

Satan is pretty good at what he does. It is going to be a real test of faith and as we know from the scriptures this is all foretold. It will be similar to when Moses went up against the evil magicians and they were able to make it look like they had the same power he had. Satan has great power, but he will lose every single time to God. When I read and study the signs of the times I wonder how people will not be humbled and go back to our heavenly father. This makes sense to me. I believe Satan is behind this. I haven’t ever been told that by anyone so my thoughts don’t represent anyone but my own, just blogging. It is something to think about.

The true battle waging on earth is good verses evil. We all know right from wrong. We all know good from evil. Part of the plan of salvation is our free will. We make choices everyday which side we are on. I am far from perfect. As we know many will be lost and many will be deceived. I just hope we are prepared and have our anchors planted deep.

We have seen it get more and more difficult to voice an opinion that is contrary to the Hollywood view. The Miss America girl that voiced her opinion on gay marriage was chewed up by the same Hollywood crowd that is making a big deal out of global warming. They aren’t all the same people and I’m not trying to stereotype just making a point. When public figures say they don’t believe in global warming most of the media outlets try to mock them. This will only get worse. A sign of the time is that people will mistake good for evil and evil for good. We are well on our way in that category already. mainstream society will make it more and more difficult to stand for God and his gospel. It is an exciting time to be alive. God saved his elect for the last days.

I hope my family, my friends and I can be on the right side when all is said and done. I read somewhere where someone likened the battle between God and Satan on earth as a sporting event where we know perfectly which team is going to win. The writer goes on to say that the weird thing is that we are still down here trying to decide which team we are going to be on.
