CrossFit - Monday, May 17th, 2010 I get a lot of questions about strength and conditioning. I am not a strength expert by any stretch of the imagination. Coach Cunningham is the director of our strength and conditioning. We all work together but he is the mastermind. We have different programs for different times of the year. Each individual is a on a little different program as well depending on what they are trying to accomplish. During the season we generally have a heavy lift early in the week and then do a “crossfit” type of work out later in the week. I just want to share Crossfit with you guys if you are not already familiar with them. They have a different mentality then most traditional strength and conditioning coaches and that’s not a bad thing. I think Crossfit is great for wrestling and endurance type of sports. I don’t think the traditional lifting ideas are the best for wrestling and are geared more at sports like football. Wrestling is unique. A unique sport requires unique training. You can spend months on Crossfit watching videos and getting ideas as you plan your strength and condition program. Coach Cunningham, Strength Coach Shawn Contos, and current U.S. Freestyle National Champion Les Sigman spent the weekend at a Crossfit seminar. We as coaches want to have the best program in the nation and that means we have to be watching and learning. You can spend months on Crossfit watching videos and getting ideas as you plan your strength and condition program. They have videos and exercises for all ages. Enjoy! Check out http://journal.crossfit.com/ I would guess that a lot of you are already familiar with Crossfit as it is hugely popular. Also I put a link to Crossfit on the bottom right corner of my site.
